Andorra’s largest ski area Grandvalira, Including our Soldeu opened a week early this year

Andorra’s largest ski area Grandvalira, which includes our little town of Soldeu, opened a week early this weekend.

It follows Arcalis which got going last weekend heralding the start of the ski season. A number of pistes in Pas de La Casa and Grau Roig saw the chair lifts running as Grandvalira enjoyed a partial opening. Thousands of skiers enjoyed getting their ski legs back on runs on the higher ground.

This year Grandvalira has created some more pistes – there’s a new green run from Grau Roig to the Peretol snow park along the valley, meaning the Cubil chair lift isn’t the only way back home. In March it broke down just as the World Cup event started leaving skiers stranded for hours.

Now once skiers reach the Peretol area, the Pla de les Pedres lift has been extended to take everyone back to Soldeu for a healthy aprés ski.

This new green run isn’t open yet as there isn’t enough snow on the lower runs. It means soon more less experienced skiers will be able to ski to Grau roig and come back via a gentle green run. Until now the route back has been along advanced red runs.

Added to this, in Soldeu, a new beginners travelator has been installed at the foot of the Soldeu telecabina with the arrival of a beginners pass at € 33 euros per day. The pass will allow access to this new ‘magic carpet’ and the beginners area up top.
